Description
Bourne Natural Wood Seal is a solvent based oleo-resinous wood floor sealer which provides excellent protection for wooden floors including Granwood. A seal should be applied to natural wood floors to prevent stains and ingrained dirt, to stop grain raising and water damage and to provide a base seal on which you can apply floor polish to further enhance the colour and appearance of the wooden flooring. Without a base to seal the floor, emulsion floor polish would simply be absorbed by the porous natural wood.
Features
• Solvent based
• Excellent protection for wooden floors including Granwood
• Can be used as a base for both water based and solvent based floor polishes
• Provides a good sealed surface to protect wood from grain raising and water damage
• Provides a suitable base for top coats of an emulsion floor or traditional wax based polishes
How to use Bourne Natural Wood Seal
Dilution of Bourne Seal with 10% white spirit for the first coat may assist the penetration on very hard woods.
Once the surface has been thoroughly vacuumed, cleaned and allowed to dry fully, use a clean applicator or brush to apply a thin even coat of BOURNE SEAL well into the surface, working with the grain and avoiding overlap. Do not apply too thickly as this will increase drying time. Allow to dry for a minimum of 8 hours, preferably 24 hours to ensure thorough drying, then lightly rub down with fine sandpaper or a medium grade nylon pad to prime the surface for the second coat. Remove surplus dust before applying the second coat. If the surface is very porous a third coat may be necessary. Ventilate the room and allow to dry and harden before use (min 8-24 hours). Clean applicators with white spirit.
Allow 3 days minimum for the seal to cure before applying floor polish.
Maintenance of the wooden floor
Regular vacuum cleaning and damp mopping is recommended for the ongoing maintenance of wooden floors, to reduce the frequency at which resealing is necessary and to protect the finish of an emulsion polish.
